I can't deny, this whole shizz about Ancient Agreement is indeed confusing. I'll try to put it in concise layman's term:
Current Upper Realm = 3000 Provinces
There's another higher upper realm called 9 Heavens & 10 Earths. In PW, there was once an ancient war in 9H&10E that killed almost all the top ranked powerhouse. The super powerful Willow God is one of those big shots but she was seriously injured and went to the Lower Realm to recover.

Ancient Agreement: Their descendants made an agreement to protect the sovereignty of 9H&10E from any future invasion. Every major clan and faction have to send their best cultivators to Desolate Border (the borders between 9H&10E and their archenemy's land) to fight. Of course.. most of these fat cats are nothing but cowards. They would never want to risk their lives to fight and that's why they were silent when Ye Qingxian asked them if they have heard of that agreement.

Here's a comparison/parallelism of the universe in PW compared to ours:

Imagine 9H&10E as our solar system and 3000 provinces is like Planet Earth while Lower Realm is like one continent on Earth. They've been fighting creatures from other galaxy for ages.

She and her grandfather need to protect Shi Hao because only he can fight their enemies. Ye Fan's cultivation at that time was still below SH's. So only SH can help them win this war.

I think you need to understand the power level of PW and StH to have a better overview. But in the terms of chronology of the trilogy, it's: PW -> StH -> Sacred Ruins

But the author wrote StH first and then he wrote the prequel (PW) followed by the sequel. When he wrote StH, the character Shi Hao did not exist yet. All he wanted was to give an introduction to Ye Fan's story and how all the conflicts started, etc.

There's no reincarnation. Ye Fan is millions of years younger than Shi Hao. It's just that once you reach a certain cultivation level, you can travel back and forth through the river of time. So, whatever happens now in PW (has already happened in real life which is Ye Fan's timeline).

StH has a slightly lower cultivation levels overall (the highest is level 15) and the author expanded it a bit more in PW. The big Sect masters in this episode of PW are all between level 10 & 12. They are nothing compared to the big bosses in 9H&10E.

In the final battle of the perfect world, the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths and the Immortal Realm were destroyed. They were no longer suitable for cultivation and had no immortality materiaies. That's why there are no immortals in shrouding the heavens. The Nine Heavens and Ten Earths became the universe of Shrouding the Heavens (Da huang, Shihao's birthplace, is the earth). The Immortal Realm was severely broken, and Shi Hao put a part of the repaired Immortal Realm into the coffin. at the end of Shrouding the heavens, Yefan find it.
